Somebody you love is getting married, and you want to say something better than “congratulations.”
That is what this page is for. The shadi shayari below is grouped by who you are sending it to — the couple, your best friend, a brother, a sister — and by where you are sending it: a card, a WhatsApp message, an Instagram caption on the day.
Everything here is written in English, with Roman Urdu where it sounds better that way. Every line on this page was written for this page. Nothing is padded. If you only need one line, take it and go.
Shadi shayari for the bride and groom
Do raaste the, ab ek safar hai —
may every mile of it be kind to you both.
You did not just find a person.
You found the rest of your evenings.
Aaj se tumhari khushi bhi saanjhi,
aur tumhara dukh bhi aadha.
Two families stood up today because of you two sitting down.
That is not a small thing.
May the first year be sweet, the fifth be steady,
and the fiftieth still find you laughing at the same joke.
Jo dua maa ne maangi thi chupke se,
woh aaj tumhare naam likhi ja rahi hai.
Nobody gets a perfect marriage.
May you get the kind worth working on.
Shadi shayari for your best friend
If the two of you go further back than the wedding, the dosti shayari page has more in this register.
I have known you through worse haircuts and worse decisions.
This one, finally, is a good one.
Tu meri wo dost hai jise maine roothte, hanste, girte dekha —
aaj sirf khush dekhna hai.
You are gaining a husband and I am losing my 2 a.m. phone privileges.
Worth it. Barely.
Yaar, tere ghar ki chai ki aadat thi mujhe —
ab naye ghar mein bhi jagah rakhna.
May your partner learn what I already know:
that you are difficult, and completely worth it.
Everyone will tell you today that marriage is compromise.
I hope yours is mostly just company.
Shadi shayari for a brother
For lines that are about the sibling bond rather than the wedding itself, see bhai behan shayari.
Bhai, ladta tha tujhse har cheez ke liye —
aaj sirf yeh chahta hoon ke tu jeet jaaye.
The boy who broke my things is bringing home someone
who will teach him to be careful.
Aaj ghar mein ek aur naam judd gaya,
aur ghar thoda aur ghar ho gaya.
I have watched you become someone worth marrying.
Do not stop now.
Bhaiya, teri shaadi ka joda dekh kar
maa ki aankhon ka paani sab keh gaya.
Shadi shayari for a sister
Behen, tu ja rahi hai —
par ghar ka wo kona hamesha tera rahega.
I taught you to ride a bicycle.
Somebody else gets to teach you nothing — you already know everything.
Aaj tak tujhe rulane ka haq sirf mera tha.
Ab kisi aur ko yeh haq de raha hoon — sambhal kar rakhna.
The house will be quieter on Monday.
That is the price of your happiness, and we are paying it gladly.
Doli uthi to ghar ka wazan halka ho gaya,
aur dil ka bhaari.
What to actually write in the card
Most people freeze at the card. Three rules make it easy.
Name them. “Wishing you both” is forgettable. “Adnan and Sara” is not. Use their names in the first line.
Say one specific thing. Not “may you be happy” — say what you actually hope for them. Specific beats grand.
Sign it like yourself. If you never say “warm regards,” do not start now.
A card that works, in three lines:
Sara, Adnan —
I hope your home is loud, your chai is strong, and your worst arguments are about furniture.
With love, always.
That is it. Better than four lines of borrowed poetry.
Nikah Mubarak shayari
For prayers outside a wedding context, the dua shayari page collects them.
Nikah sirf do logon ka nahi —
do duaon ka milna hai.
May the promise you made in front of everyone
be the one you keep when nobody is watching.
Allah aap dono ko ek dusre ke liye sukoon banaye.
Two words said quietly today
will hold up a whole life.
Shadi anniversary shayari
For lines written to a partner rather than about the marriage, see shayari for wife.
First anniversary
One year of learning where the other person keeps everything.
The good part starts now.
Twenty-five years
Paccis saal — jhagde bhi apne, chai bhi apni.
Yehi to shaadi hai.
Twenty-five years of choosing the same person
on the mornings when it was not easy.
Any year
Har saal thoda aur samajh aata hai
ke saath hona kaisi ni’mat hai.
Anniversaries are not about the wedding.
They are about every ordinary Tuesday since.
Two line shadi shayari for status and captions
Ghar naya, log purane, khushi dono jagah.
Same story, new chapter, better handwriting.
Do dilon ka faisla, poore khandaan ki khushi.
She said yes. He is still recovering.
Rishta wahi acha jo waqt ke saath narm ho jaye.
Married. Same person, new title.
Ek aangan, do naam, umar bhar ka waada.
Booked for life. No refunds, no regrets.
